Learning Lessons the HARD Way.

Lately, I’ve had a lot of opportunity for learning lessons. Unfortunately, most of them have been lessons learned the hard way. Besides, is there really any other way to learn a true lesson?

In my workshops and with my clients, I always reiterate the quote “Don’t try hard, try easy” by yoga instructor Baron Baptiste. It’s my mantra. Whenever a task or life in general feels hard, I know it’s a sign that I’m pushing, forcing, and going against the natural flow of the Universe.  I believe this to be true in all areas of life – especially in technology or when learning a new skill.

This week, I worked hard to finish up a project. After hours immersed it, I realized there had to be an easier way. While I may not consciously know the answer or the how-to’s of that easier way, I did gather clarity on the situation.

Whenever I find that something feels extremely difficult, there are generally a few underlying lessons that I’m failing to recognize.

Here are a few:

1.  Just because I don’t know how to do it, doesn’t mean there isn’t somebody out there who does. Ask for help!

2. Just because you know how to do something, are good at it, and can physically pull it off, it doesn’t mean you should – follow your passions.

3. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses. Boundaries are a blessing, set them and stick with them.

Outside of the scope of my general work, these past few weeks brought immense clarity of my direction of writing, working with clients, and setting the stage for what’s to come.

My wise friend Janice Earhart said to me – if you just change the physical circumstances in your life, but don’t change the mental chatter, it’s all going to pour right back in exactly how it is now.

How true Janice – thank you for your wisdom!
